Fisher Scholarship Fund

The Fisher Scholarship is made possible by a series of major gifts from George F. and Lina C. Fisher to the University of New Hampshire Foundation. George Fisher received the Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering at UNH in 1950. The purpose of the scholarship fund is to provide financial assistance to undergraduate and/or graduate students at the University within the ECE Department. Awards from the fund are made on the basis of merit, although financial need may also be considered.

This year's recipient of the Fisher Scholarship was Aidan Scannell. He is second in the ECE class of 1996 in academic standing. He is a veteran of the army infantry and of the national guard. Last summer he was selected to participate in the Research Experiences for Undergraduates Site program in the ECE Department sponsored by the National Science Foundation. His research project involved designing an obstacle detection and avoidance system for a mobile robot using an array of electrostatic ultrasound transducers.

Aidan received the award at the College awards ceremony in May. The awards ceremony was especially meaningful since the Fishers were able to attend, traveling from their home in Florida, to congratulate Aidan in person.
