IEEE Student Chapter at UNH

by Kimberly A. Roy

During the 1994-95 academic year, the IEEE sponsored three lectures given by UNH EE professors: Dr. Murdoch, Lighting; Dr. Clark, Radar Station; and Dr. Nahin, Time Travel. We had a Halloween Party, a Christmas Party and a Spring Picnic -- and of course there was the Student Professional Awareness Conference (SPAC).

The IEEE officers for the 1995-96 academic year will be: Kimberly Roy, President; James Inglee, Vice President; Roberto Acosta, Secretary; Andrew McKennan, Treasurer; Anthony Pizzuti, Activity Coordinator; and Susan Damiano, Activity Coordinator. Dr. Alan Drake will continue to be the faculty advisor. I believe that all of these officers share my enthusiasm and ambition. We are interested in building an organization to benefit, help and encourage students.

We have many plans for this year. We will present several lectures featuring the research of UNH EE professors and students. The traditions of the annual Christmas Party and Spring Picnic will continue. We will still sell pizza in Kingsbury Lobby on Mondays at noon. A monthly newsletter will keep all members informed of upcoming events. An e-mail account will be established so that any IEEE member may write a letter and all IEEE members will receive it. A big brother/big sister program will be set up so that underclassmen will have the opportunity to have upperclassmen "show them the ropes," encourage them to stay in the EE Department, and help them with any difficulties in classes.

I would like to encourage all students in the EE Department to become members of IEEE. It is an excellent way to meet other EE students, hear about research projects that EE faculty and students are involved in, visit all of the EE research labs, and get a little help from upperclassmen in classes that are difficult for you.
