Employment Opportunities for UNH ECE Students

Over the past couple of years there has been a substantial increase in employment opportunities (both full and part time) for students in our department. These employment positions have all been in the area of ECE and involve students from sophomore through graduate levels. This increase has been most prevalent during the past two semesters (fall '95 and spring '96) and summer '96. Students have the opportunity to work in industrial and research facilities, using the engineering skills they have acquired, while gaining valuable job related experiences. They are not only exposed to industrial and research environments, but in many instances have the opportunity to work with new state-of-the-art technologies. Because of the many opportunities, most students can choose a job which takes their own technical and professional interests into account, as well as salary and location.

This summer ('96) students from our department are working in numerous UNH research facilities: ECE Robotics Laboratory - adaptive learning in robotics; Interoperability Laboratory - testing and developing high-speed networks; ECE Vision Laboratory - developing machine vision systems; ECE Design Automation Laboratory - developing electronics and packaging for satellite systems; ECE Wireless Communications Laboratory - developing antenna systems and EM modeling; Small Satellite Laboratory (Part of the UNH's Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans, and Space(EOS)) - developing electronic systems for the CATSAT satellite and developing gamma ray sensors; EOS Space Center - developing ASIC devices for the EQUATA-S project; and UNH's Center for Ocean Engineering - developing electronic instrumentation for ocean research. Also, this summer our students are working in industrial and military facilities such as Cabletron Systems, Lockheed Sanders, Teradyne, HADCO, Motorola, Massachusetts Electric, Vitronics, Datacube, National Semiconductor, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Mikros Manufacturing, Computer City, Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, and an electronics company in India.

The Department recognizes the importance of these job related experiences to the student's overall ECE educational program. We encourage research and commercial institutions that have summer and semester ECE related employment positions (full and part time) to contact our department. The Department posts all ECE related positions on our bulletin board and our web page and helps students find positions in their areas of interest.
