Hitchcock Award

The Leon W. Hitchcock Award is presented to an outstanding junior in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering as selected by the faculty of that Department. The funds for the award have been provided by alumni, faculty and friends of the Department in memory of Leon W. Hitchcock, a longtime Professor and Chairman of that Department. The amount of the award is determined by the interest generated by the fund over the past year.

This year Michael R. Shannon from Jaffrey, New Hampshire received the award. Mike currently has one of the top GPAs in the class of 1997. His major professional interest area is computer architecture and applications. During the past year he has been a participant in the National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates Site in the ECE Department at UNH. His research has focused on the intelligent sensory-based control of an autonomous robot. Mike is a member of the UNH chapters of the IEEE and Tau Beta Pi, and received the Tau Beta Pi Sophomore Engineer Award in 1995.

The capital in the fund grew this year as the result of additional generous gifts from alumni William L. Dalton ('66) and Gilbert B. Gould ('51). If you would like to contribute so that the award will continue to grow, please send your check to:
