The Future of IEEE
by George "Gaf" Fitch, President Elect
In a general sense, there are two main goals of the
UNH IEEE chapter for the '97-'98 academic year. The first is that of necessity;
we need a source of income. Though we have pizza sales for spring '98 (still
Mondays of course), we do not have pizza sales for fall '97. Therefore, we must
find some alternative source of income if we'd like to maintain our financial
security. Some suggestions are bagel or donut sales in the morning and pizza
sales in Parsons.
The other goal of the UNH IEEE is that of image,
we need a stronger public relations campaign. We had several excellent events
such as the spring and fall picnics, the Christmas Party, and of course the
successful S-PAC. Though attendance was good for these events, I feel that more
people could have and should have been present. A stronger PR crusade could have
brought more people, and will thus be implemented in the future. In other words,
as soon as you see a sign for an IEEE event expect to be contacted and
encouraged to buy a ticket.
The specific goals of the UNH IEEE for '97-'98
are old ones, new ones, and new ones that should be old ones. In the first
category, we plan to have the standard picnics, parties, and lectures. In the
second category, due to popular demand we plan to do a lighter version of S-PAC.
Also, some improvement on the UNH IEEE home page would be nice. Finally, in the
third category, senior and departmental pictures will be updated. My pre-thanks
goes out to Joy, Tony, and Chris who are the main officers of the '97-'98
year.
