4-H Day at the ECE Department by John R. LaCourse As part of our outreach program to get grammar school students interested in electrical engineering, the ECE Department sponsored a day (March 25, Saturday) of activities for over 30 4H students with their families. Grades represented were 4th through 8th. This activity was coordinated by the UNH Cooperative Extension Service The students met in Barton Hall at 9 AM for an introductory speech and agenda layout. We marched them to Morse Hall for a half-hour of discussion about electrical engineering. Then, Dr. Kun provided a lecture and demonstration about robots. From 10:30-12:00 Noon, the students broke into two groups and listened to lectures by Mike Dalton on power conversion and Craig Lombard on digital circuits and then participated in workshops. Mike and Craig designed the workshops. In the afternoon the students participated in some canned experiments designed by the Cooperative Extension staff. By that time many UNH students stopped by to help and participated with the above mentioned activities. The day ended about 3 PM after some games. It was a success. It is our hope that this program will continue well into the future. I want to thank Dr. Andy Kun, Mr. Mike Dalton, and Mr. Craig Lombard for their help and support for this effort. | ||
