Hitchcock Award

The Leon W. Hitchcock Award is presented to an outstanding junior in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering as selected by the faculty of that Department. This year Richard L. Lynch from Londonderry, NH received the award. Richard currently has one of the top GPAs in the class of 2001.

During the past year he has participated in a number of challenging projects along with working for the Interoperability Laboratory. Starting last summer, Richard designed and implemented a remote camera system called UNH Eagle Eye under the direction of Professor Messner. This remote camera system is currently above Kingsbury Hall. You can see real-time video images and even control the camera via the Internet (http://svpal1.unh.edu/skycam).

Also during this past year, Richard was a member of the Health Pilot project team along with ECE students Mark Sinclair, Kevin Meyer, and Nathan Bourgoine. You can read about this exciting project, which was under the direction of Professor Pokoski, in the Health Pilot article in this issue of Signals and Noise.

Richard is currently working on his senior project under the direction of Professor Miller. Richard is rebuilding one of the robotic systems and will make it into a robot that can be controlled via the Internet.

The funds for the award have been provided by alumni, faculty and friends of the Department in memory of Leon W. Hitchcock, a longtime Professor and Chairman of the Department. The amount of the award is determined by the interest generated by the fund over the past year. If you would like to contribute so that the award will continue to grow, please send your check to:
