Teaching
Thirty years of teaching experience at the University of New Hampshire and the University of Connecticut. He has taught courses in advanced electronics, filter design and synthesis, control, instrumentation and biomedical and clinical engineering. He has active research and development projects in the areas of noninvasive instrumentation for the detection of carpal tunnel syndrome and other upper body musculoskeletal diseases, noninvasive detection methods for workplace disorders, electrosurgery, rehabilitation engineering, apnea prediction, and the determination of BPH. Funds have come from the Hospital Corporation of America, Veterans Administration, Easter Seal Foundation, Whitaker Foundation, Social Security Administration, the State of New Hampshire, Department of Education, and the private sector. He is presently the Coordinator of the UNH Human Factors Research and Development Center.
Biography
John LaCourse was born in Norwich, CT on March 17, 1952. He received the B.A. in Biophysics from the University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT in 1974, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in biological engineering from the same institute in 1977 and 1981, respectively. Since 1980 he has been a member of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of New Hampshire. He is a member of IEEE-EMBS, IEEE-IMS, Sigma Xi, Medical Ergonomics Society, and the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. He is also a certified Professional Ergonomist (#83).
