Fields of Research Activity
Physics and mathematics of non-causal systems, history of mathematics, technology and science, philosophy of science.

Experience
Twenty-nine years of teaching at UNH, with courses in probability, logic design, electromagnetic field theory, image processing, minicomputer engineering, pattern recognition, circuit theory, history of complex numbers, time travel in science and fiction, advanced electronics, nuclear war technology, continuous and discrete systems, and undergraduate laboratory. Other academic work includes one year at the University of Virginia (taught graduate probability, history of radio, and undergraduate circuits), one year at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA (taught undergraduate control and graduate digital control courses), two years at the George Washington University in Washington, DC (taught night courses in electronics and engineering mathematics), and two and one-half years at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA (taught physical electronics, linear systems, and computer programming). Industrial work includes three years of digital design at Beckman Instruments in Fullerton, CA (designed the programmable simulator of the Gemini manned vehicle), five years of digital and radar system design and analysis at Hughes Aircraft in Fullerton, CA (wrote the radar clutter reduction program for the Swiss Air Defense System), and two years as a military systems analyst for the Institute for Defense Analyses and the Center for Naval Analyses, in Arlington, VA.

Biography
Paul Nahin was born in Berkeley, CA on November 26, 1940. He received the B.S. from Stanford University in 1962, the M.S. from the California Institute of Technology in 1963, and the Ph.D. from the University of California at Irvine in 1972, all in Electrical Engineering. Post-doctoral year at the Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, DC, 1973-74. Since September 1975 he has been a member of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UNH.
